Maker and marks
: On the base of this lovely porcelain pedestal cake stand or tazza is the red mark "A La Paix, 34 rue de l'Opéra, Paris".
A La Paix was a high-end retailer and decorator of top quality luxury porcelain and crystal at the turn of the last century. Its merchandise included exquisite works by Haviland, Charles Ahrenfeldt, Gallé, Wedgwood, Derby, Nymphenburg and Bing and Grondahl, as well as the many exceptional pieces it created in its own workshop.
Other pieces in this dinner service - but not this cake stand - have the impressed white ware mark number 27 of Theodore Haviland, one of the great Limoges firms. This mark was in use between 1894 and 1957.

Design
: The low cake stand features a finely painted pattern of intertwined garlands of tiny pink roses and green leaves on fine pure white porcelain. It is trimmed in gold.
Many of the great Limoges companies produced variations of the classic and hugely popular pattern of pink roses against a pure white background. That means this cake stand would easily blend into similar sets by many other Limoges makers. And of course, it would make a lovely display on its own.
Size
: The cake stand is 8 3/4 inches wide at the top and 4 1/2 inches wide at the base. It is 3 inches tall and weighs 1 pound 6 ounces.
Condition
: It is in overall excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, repairs, scratches, crazing or wear. There are several tiny spots on the edge and on the underside trim where the gold has worn off; examples are shown in the photos with the penny.
