Rare Early Molded Hair NASB Nancy Ann Storybook Judy Ann Doll He Loves Me #121

Description

Up for auction is a rare molded painted hair early/late 1938 jointed leg Judy Ann Doll wearing He Loves Me #121 in two-tier taffeta print with red dots. Brass safety pin closure on dress. Center seam pantalets with brass safety pin closure. The Judy Ann mold was the second mold made in the American factories, but was quickly discontinued when the name was unable to be trademarked.
The molded painted hair Judy Ann is not listed as a variation of “He Loves Me” #121 in the Encyclopedia of Bisque Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls but according to the book:
“nothing is sealed in stone when identifying a Nancy Ann Storybook Doll costume. The list of characters changed often, as new characters were added and orders dropped from production…So if a trim or fabric was unavailable to the seamstress, we understand how easily a substitute was utilized, as the goal was to finish a costume…During a mold change at the factory, costumes were placed first on the discontinued mold until the remaining old stock was exhausted, and then on the new mold. The same held true with costume changes. Consequently, there was often overlapping as these changes occurred.”
Doll is in excellent condition. Joints are tight. Two areas of tiny paint chip to shoes. A few tiny pin holes on bottom tier of front of dress and two yellow spots on top tier of front of dress. Please see all photos!

All items come from a smoke free but pet friendly home. I do try my best to keep items stored in totes away from the pets, and the lint roller is my best friend, but I can’t guarantee you won’t find one stray pet hair! I reuse and recycle shipping and packing material whenever possible in order to give these items a second life and help keep them out of the landfill.
